NOTES FROM THE CALL:
The PMP examination is now based on version 4 of the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). This month’s PMP Study call focuses on the soft skills need by successful project managers, as laid out in PMBOK version 4. This is a new section of the PMBOK. Dana Safford, PMP, will provide insight and practical examples of everything you need to know to building your critical knowledge mass and pass the PMP exam on the first attempt.

Tim Brantner is currently a Tech Lead, Advisory Software Engineer, and a WebSphere Customer Programs Specialist focusing on improving customer satisfaction and quality of IBM's Business Process Management (BPM) software. He does this by helping lead several different customer programs like the Early Design Program, Customer Acceleration Program, Beta programs, Skills Transfer, IBM Education Assistant, and First Looks. In addition to helping lead programs, he develops and delivers technical educational content for several BPM offerings like WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Integration Developer. Tim has a history of web development and customer support roles, and started his career at a dot com before joining IBM in 2001

In his book, The Project Management Answer Book, Jeff created unique Top 10 Pitfall Lists for each chapter, based on lessons learned from his many years as a PM in IT, and also culled from best practices shared by the more than 500 PMs who have taken his PMP prep classes.

In this interactive session with Henry Will, Jeff will cover some of the most critical pitfalls, discussing how to avoid or mitigate them for maximum project success.


PRESENTERS BIO:
Jeff Furman, PMP is the author of: The Project Management Answer Book
(Management Concepts, ©January 2011, Vienna, Virginia). Jeff has 15 years experience as an IT project manager for Fortune 500 financial firms in the NYC area. He has managed many IT projects including: new product evaluations, QA testing, infrastructure upgrades, training rollouts, and a mission-critical IT change management system used by more than 1,000 application developers 24x7.

In addition, for the last four years he has been teaching Advanced Project Management Toward PMP Certification, and has trained more than 500 PMs. Many of the hands-on tips he developed in his class are included in the book, as are many of the best practices shared in class by his students.

Jeff also teaches a popular Train-the-Trainer / Presentation Skills class, coaching instructors toward the Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) certification from CompTIA, and related credentials: Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and Adobe Certified Instructor (ACI).

He has published articles on a wide range of topics, from PMP to risk management to IT software to Y2K to interviews with singer/songwriters for New Jersey’s daily newspaper, The Bergen Record.
