About PMlessonsLearned.com

Here's some information about us.

PMlessonsLearned.com is a grassroots organization of Project Managers helping Project Managers. It's been in existence since 2006 and has more than 1000 members located around the globe. The group mostly works through 3 separate subgroups: one for PMP Exam Study, another for networking, career, and job searching (called PM Job Shop), and the third being the PM Best Practices group with PMs sharing Lessons Learned.

  • How it all started
    • Henry C. Will IV, PMP is the founder and leader of this group
    • He had wanted to start a column in a PM publication where PMs could share their Lessons Learned
    • In 2005, Henry met Rod Colon (etpnetwork.com) and participated in Rod's weekly conference calls on Networking
    • Later Henry used Rod as a Career Coach. At their first meeting, Henry mentioned sharing Lessons Learned and expressed the idea of using the same conference call format as Rod for the call
    • Rod encouraged Henry and connected Henry with several other Project Managers in the New Jersey and New York area
      • Our founding members were Barbara Fuller, Mara Burns, and Steve Blaise.
    • PMLessonsLearned.com was formed in April of 2006 by Henry and a bunch of Project Managers - all as volunteers
    • The domain name, website and podcasting was set up by Henry and he started putting together calls
      • Through networking with several other PM Podcasters, Cornelius Fichtner, PMP (thepmpodcast.com) and Dina Henry-Scott, PMP (controllingchaos.com), Henry obtained valuable guidance on how to podcast the conference calls
    • Henry used the basic networking premise of "reciprocity" to request speakers for the monthly calls
  • PMP Exam Study Group
    • Early in the history of PM Lessons learned (2006), David Radkovich was a regular participating caller on many of the conference calls
    • David soon started a local PMP Exam Study Group (held at a library). As a PMP, Henry was asked to speak to the group
    • In 2007 (about May), Henry had asked David to prepare a backup presentation in case a presenter could not make a PMLL call at the last minute. The backup presentation was not needed, so Henry asked David if he would like to take one of the other weeks of the month to present his material about PMP Exam Study.
    • David agreed and continued - and thus (in April 2007) was begun a monthly call that David hosted called PMP Exam Study Group
  • PM JOB SHOP
    • Several Members (one in Kuwait who was moving to Oaklahoma) inquired about PM jobs
    • Henry busily created networking relationships with PMs and recruiters
    • In 2007 the group had a get together after the NJ PMI Chapter symposium. After that meeting Henry asked one of the members if they would like to start a monthly PM JOB SHOP call. Linda Wortman stepped up and had the call twice a month, inviting recruiters and others to present and share job openings, career advice, and job hunting tips. On the very first call, a placement was made. Several other placements were made as well.
    • Late in 2007 Linda was no longer able to host this call. Satnam Bansal hosted the call for a few months, but due to work committments could not continue
    • In 2008, Mike Chrepta and Scott Percival took over this call and it began to be added to the list of podcasts

Presentation Material will be posted on the PMLL Yahoo group prior to the conference call (http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/pmjobshop/ ).

Six Sigma is a business management strategy and is a proven disciplined approach for improving measurable results for any organization. Six Sigma project success stories exist from organizations including manufacturing, service, nonprofit, government, research and health care.

Lean Six Sigma goes by many names, including Lean Enterprise, lean manufacturing, Lean Sigma, and Lean Service. These concepts are a natural complement to Six Sigma and can be applied to every type of business and process. The common thread is to identify and eliminate sources of waste and activities that do not add value, in order to create flow with maximum productivity, capacity, and throughput.

Martin Czebotar is the owner of ZEB connsulting LLC and is a Six Sigma Black Belt. His expertise is in designing production processes and optimizing the work process through Six Sigma techniques, project management, product design, production capabilities and team communications.
